May musicians not invited to participate in the Gala Concert still attend Trumpet Day and the masterclass?

Yes! The role of "auditor" has been created for this purpose. (See the Quick Link to the Auditor Registration Form for fees associated with festival events.)

Have you reserved rooms for student participants at a local hotel?

No. The farthest college/university invited to participate in this festival is less than 1.5-hour drive from Highland Hills Baptist Church, so accommodations should not be necessary for participating musicians. However, if you are interested in lodging for yourself or family, click here for a list of local hotels provided by Google Maps.

Trumpet Day is an all-day event--is lunch provided?

Yes, Trumpet Day (Saturday) has a break for lunch, which is provided. Please note that all other festival activities are held in the afternoon/evening, so you should plan on eating before coming to the rehearsals and/or other events.

How do we register for the Festival?

Application materials are available from this Web site (see Quick Links) and include registration deadlines and information. All registration forms and fees should be mailed to:

Highland Hills Baptist Church
1415 Northrup NW
Grand Rapids, MI, 49504

Can students sign up to participate in the Gala Concert individually or can smaller ensembles register?

Unfortunately, no. We ask that students sign up as a quintet in order to maintain an even balance for the Intercollegiate Brass Choir; however, we will work with ensembles that can only supply four players to see if there is a musician that might supplement the IBC and fill the missing slot. (Note: Participation as an ensemble in the Gala Concert is by invitation only.)

When will ensembles receive the music for the Gala Concert?

Our goal is to provide as much preparation time as possible for participating ensembles. Some of the music will be delivered to your school music department/faculty representative during the week following the registration deadline. However, in the case of some other pieces (including the commisioned works), we cannot guarantee the same arrival date. Our goal is to provide all the music with at least a four- (4)-week lead time before the first rehearsal.
