The West Michigan area is host to numerous musical events and an active faith community that is committed to helping those in need. Highland Hills Baptist Church (HHBC) has invited the Highland Hills Festival Chorus and undergraduate brass quintets from local colleges/universities to participate with us in an endeavor that both advances the arts and benefits the people of our shared community: the Highland Hills Festival of Sacred Music.

This is an opportunity unlike any other in our region. This festival includes:

  1. Masterclasses presented by Douglas Yeo, Bass Trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and featuring local, college brass quintets. Mr. Yeo will also conduct an Intercollegiate Brass Choir comprised of the brass quintets.
  2. A Gala Concert that is free and open to the public (only a free-will offering will be taken). The Gala Concert will feature the aforementioned Intercollegiate Brass Choir, Mr. Yeo on serpent, and the Highland Hills Festival Chorus (HHFC). The gala concert will be conducted by both Mr. Yeo and Dr. Richard Stewart, a Pulitzer Prize-nominated composer, and the Music Director and founder of the Evangelical Choral Society.
  3. An opportunity to help those in need: All proceeds from the free-will offering taken at the Gala Concert will go directly to David's House Ministries—a local, Christian care ministry dedicated to assisting developmentally-disabled adults.

Hoping to Attend a Festival Event?

We invite you to join us in making the Highland Hills Festival of Sacred Music another hallmark event on the West Michigan arts calendar. In addition to the Gala Concert, you are invited to attend a free presentation by Mr. Yeo, where he will present his personal testimony of faith. All of these events occur at Highland Hills Baptist Church. For the dates and times of these and other events, click on the "Schedule" link at the top of this page.

If you are a local musician who would like to attend a masterclass given by Mr. Yeo, please click on the Quick Link to the Auditor Registration Form (PDF). There are two (2) masterclasses (see Schedule page for times) and the fee per masterclass is only $15.

Are You a Participating Musician?

If you are a participating musician, we hope you enjoy your time with us and that you find what you need to register easily, prepare well, and arrive safely. All brass activities and rehearsals occur at Highland Hills Baptist Church.

The following Quick Links have been provided for you:

  • A link to the Quintet Registration Form (PDF). You can fill it out online, save it, and print it from your computer. (Registration details are included on the form.)
  • Note: Participation as a member of the Intercollegiate Brass Choir is by invitation only. A copy of this form was also submitted to a faculty member at each of the participating educational institutions.
  • A link to the detailed Rehearsal Schedule (PDF). Again, this is for participating musicians (IBC & HHFC) and is more detailed than the schedule given on the Schedule page.
