 Sermon Podcast
Track and Field is a Spring season sport in Michigan.  Every Spring, the distance runners, shake off the rust of winter inactivity, and train for their events.  There is often a remarkable progress that is evident over the season.  At first, the runners strain to accomplish 3200 meters.  After several laps, their stride becomes choppy, and they hold their hands in a way that breaks their form.  But, as the weather warms, training continues and pays off.  Stamina is gained, and the runners compete fluidly and with confidence.  The discipline of athletic training is an apt image for the work of God in our lives.  He is teaching us, training us, disciplining us for our benefit.  When we realize this, we can engage our training with courage and gratitude.  Out text for Sunday morning is Hebrews 12:4-13.  The Scriptures will encourage us to spiritually strengthen “feeble arms and weeks knees,” as we recognize God at work in us. &#... Independence Day in America is a time to remember an idea and an event. The idea is the inalienable right to liberty. The event, of course, is the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. In 1776, a new nation was birthed, but not without struggle. The hardship those Patriots were willing to endure resulted in the blessings of political freedom we enjoy in America today. This year July 4th, falls on a Sunday. This Sunday, we also remember an even more profound event. We are reminded of the crucifixion of our Savior, Jesus Christ, as we will observe our Lord’s Table. He suffered for us so that we might have true spiritual freedom. Our text Sunday morning is John 16:16-22, as we return this week to our sermon series on the “Amen, amen” passages in John’s Gospel.
