If you have ever been a parent or an athlete, you have either given or received a pep talk.  In the first 4 verses of 2Timothy 4, the Apostle Paul has given Pastor Timothy some challenging reminders on "preaching the Word of God".  While sharing the weightiness of this ministry and the difficult environment in which it takes place, he has given 5 directives to Timothy (and all pastors) on how he is to carry out this responsibility.  Paul concludes his admonition in recorded in verse 5 by giving a final "pep talk" on keeping to the task. Lots of books and articles are written about preaching.  Many discuss what types of preaching are effective in our contemporary culture today.  All sorts of topics and opinions are given anywhere from what subjects should be preached or should not be, what type of preaching brings the most people to church, the attention span of the hearers and what visual equipment is needed to enhance the message.
