Pastor Dave continues speaking on 1 Corinthians 13; 8-13. Download MP3 Audio
It was not too many years ago when people who were separated by many miles and yet wanted to stay in contact with one another, carried on a regular correspondence through the mail.  Now, with a computer, a webcam and an internet connection, two people can see and talk to each other in real time—even if they are on separate continents!  As wonderful as these technologies are, a video call is still no substitute for being together.  As we meet together in our worship Sunday morning we know that Jesus Christ present among us.  Still, there is a longing in the heart of every true believer.  We long for that day when Jesus returns, and we shall see him face to face.  We will be reminded of this hope as we complete 1 Corinthians 13. Pastor Lamb continues the discussion of "christian" love from 1 Corinthians 13. Download MP3 Audio
1 Corinthians 13 is often called “The love chapter of the Bible.”  I wonder if some people are under the impression that it is “The wedding chapter of the Bible.”  After all, I think this chapter is read more at weddings than any other occasion.  Love is the predominant theme of these verses, yes, but the primary application of love is intended for the church, not just marriage.  Paul uses fifteen verbs to describe what love is, and what it is not.  It is not that Paul is trying to define love, but rather describe what love does.  Since the Bible states that “God is love,” perhaps a fresh way to read this chapter is to substitute the name of “Jesus” for every occurrence of the word “love.”  This passage is God’s Word for us on Sunday morning.  Pastor continues discussing 1 Corinthians 12 14-31 and the spiritual gifts of the church. Download MP3 Audio
One of the Apostle Paul’s favorite images for life and service together in the church, is the analogy of the human body.  Every part of the body has a role, even though the functions of the parts are quite different.  We see this body metaphor in several of his letters, and likely he used it regularly in his teaching.  What we must not lose sight of, in this picture, is that the emphasis is on Christ and the Holy Spirit, not on us.  Because of this, the impact of today’s passage is that we must not have too low of a view of ourselves, or too low of a view of others as spiritual gifts are exercised in the church.  1 Corinthians 12:14-31 will be our passage this morning.  - Download MP3 Audio
