The Lord has blessed Highland Hills by moving in the hearts of many of our own members as they have felt the call of the Holy Spirit to go out from our local fellowship and serve Him in Michigan, the United States and around the world. We are truly following the command found in Acts 1:8 where we read the commission to evangelize the world, "both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
It's also noteworthy to observe that our missionaries never seem to "retire". They continue to find ways to serve the Lord, even after what would seem to be their official times of service come to an end!
Currently, we support 18 missionary units; either individuals, couples or families. These are located on five different continents. They are as close as Grand Rapids, (1 retired but still serving, 1 pre-field, 1 at Bibles International, 1 in the area after serving a year in Togo, West Africa). We also have one in Michigan (Detroit area). There are a number in the United States, outside of Michigan, (1 in Maryland, 1 in Indiana, also retired and still serving). In South America we currently have 2 families. In Africa there are 2. In Europe we have 4 currently, and 1 currently in Grand Rapids, eager to leave for Spain. Lastly, we have 2 in Asia.
Amazingly of these 18, half (9) are from our own congregation! We also have short term missionaries from time to time and often these have gone on to become career missionaries.
As a church family we are so privileged to be able to partner with these, some of the Lord's choicest servants out on the front lines. It is such a blessing to serve with them and be able to pray for them. Getting to know them and share in their work is indeed a true honor for us. We are blessed.
